A 2016 Travel Round Up

So my last post on here was back in the beginning of September!! I’ve been a bit busy with my other sewing blog and lots of travelling to update this one so I’ll add the last few months in the year in this 2016 travel round up! January – March I learnt to ski! I…

Valencia and La Tomatina!

Now I have to admit, I’ve been to Valencia before, a fair few years ago, but I have absolutely no recollection of when, where or what happened – and no there wasn’t any drinking involved! For some reason, there was a huge gaping hole in my memory about that holiday to the point I was…

Barcelona – a city/ beach break

So apparently I only post new blogs here after I’ve been on holiday… Not a bad thing I suppose. Let’s just hope I’m able to blog regularly! (Cause that means I’m going on lots of holidays!) Where we stayed: Hotel SOHO – This hotel was in a great location, walkable to lots of attractions and…

48 hours in Seville

What do you do when you’ve got a long bank holiday weekend coming up? Book a last minute city break of course! Seville’s been on my travel list for a little while and I was reminded of that when I caught Richard Ayoade’s Travel Man do 48 hours in Seville! Plus the fact that it’s…

New toy!

I’ve just gotten round to upgrading my camera. (Finally!) Not that there was anything wrong with the old one. In fact I think my old one takes more beautiful photos but I’ve not had a huge opportunity to use the new one yet so we’ll see how that compares later. So I wasn’t very adventurous…

My IKEA MOPPE drawer hack (kind of)

When I saw this box of drawers in IKEA I knew it’ll make the perfect sewing box for the windowsill in my sewing room. It comes in a raw wood finish and from the displays, IKEA really encourage you to get creative and customise them. Perfect! Unfortunately I didn’t make great choices in round one……

New blog!

So I’ve decided to move most of my sewing stuff to a new blog called Self Assembly Sewing.  It’s time for a change! I’ll be using the new site to focus on building something that could help me turn this hobby that I love into a career (fingers crossed!).  I’m still going to post on…

Rockin’ an A-line skirt!

These A-line skirts have been thrown in my face all season long that I fell in love with them too! And really, what’s not to love? The high waist and light flare is great for highlighting the waist and masking the hips. Paired with tights and boots, even the short lengths I prefer are suitable…

I made cruffins!

Cruffin(n.): a croissant-muffin hybrid.  It was a life changing experience having one of these from the bakery in Selfridges. So much so that I obsessed over finding a recipe and making them for days! In the end I used this recipe which uses a pasta machine to make these beauties!           Half are filled…

Skiing in Alpbach!

Three months into 2016 and I’m already 2 ski holidays down! Impressive for a beginner, right? So after a first hectic week of beginner lessons in Tignes, France in January, I ended up at a much smaller resort to improve my newfound skills. Alpbach in Austrian Tyrol region is a tiny traditional village (also named…

Pattern Review sewing competition

I’ve decided to start entering a few sewing/ dressmaking competitions just to push myself to work a little quicker and to a better standard. My problem though was finding some! After much googling, I’ve decided to enter the Pattern Review Little Red Dress Contest.  It started a couple of weeks ago and ends on Tuesday…

Learning freehand machine embroidery with The Makery

I’ve always been interested in machine embroidery ever since I went with my mum to a class in Malaysia to learn embroidery for a kebaya (that’s a traditional style shirt for ladies worn with a sarong). Of course using those skills over here is being a bit trickier since a) I don’t have a treadle…
